A Little Dab Will Do

Oct 2011 015

When French settlers moved into the lower Louisiana Mississippi Valley, they didn’t have an abundance of stone as a resource material in building structures. Bousillage is a Louisiana French term for walls made of mud. Fort St Jean Baptiste SHS interpretive staff will discuss this traditional Louisiana construction method called boussillage and the cultures associated with the tradition. Participants will learn about the origins of bousillage, and have a hands-on experience mixing and daubing the mud into a wall or frame.
